The opening of the monument " Gypsy Vardo".

For initiative Historical Memorial Preserve "Babyn Yar", the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Kyiv City State Administration,  the monument "Gypsy Vardo" (Romani Wagon) was unveiled in sign to honouring the victims of the Genocide of Roma in 1941 - 1943.

 October 23, 2016, were carried out measures to establish justice, restoration of national honour and memory of Roma that were victims of Nazism.

During the German occupation of Kyiv in 1941-1943 years, Babyn Yar became a place of mass executions by the Nazis of Jews and Roma, Soviet prisoners of war, concentration camp prisoners and Soviet underground, the members of Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, the mentally ill, the hostages, "saboteurs", violators of curfew and others.

August 2, 2016 is marked 68 years since the mass destruction of Roma prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

 

The author of the monument " Gypsy Vardo " is the academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, the architect Anatoly Ignashchenko.
