Forum "Memory Under Occupation: Holocaust Museums in the Conditions of War"

We invite you to take part in the forum "Memory Under Occupation: Holocaust Museums in the Conditions of War" on October 22–23, 2026. This is a joint initiative of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" and the Memorial Museum of Totalitarian Regimes “Territory of Terror”.

The forum will take place in Kyiv, with the possibility of joining online as well.

This is the first working meeting that we are initiating for Ukrainian museums, memorial, and archival institutions that preserve testimonies of the Holocaust and mass killings of the Second World War era.

We propose to come together to discuss the shared challenges our institutions face under conditions of full-scale war: the preservation and digitization of archives, the protection of collections and sites of memory, work under occupation and during evacuation, contemporary approaches to Holocaust memorialization, as well as documenting present-day violence without losing the connection to the past.

The goal of the forum is to identify shared priorities and to create a permanent network of interaction and mutual support among Ukrainian institutions working on the theme of the Holocaust in Ukraine.

Participants will have the opportunity to present their institution's experience and to talk about how it works, how it preserves its collections and archives, and how it continues to fulfill its mission under conditions of full-scale invasion.

If you would like to join the program as a speaker, please indicate this in the registration form.
