Babyn Yar Launches Summer Film Club as Part of the RESEARCH SPACE Public Programme

On 10 July, the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" launched the summer Film Club programme as part of its public initiative RESEARCH SPACE. The opening screening featured Holofiction, a collage film by Polish filmmaker Michał Kosakowski.

Premiered at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival, Holofiction is composed entirely of excerpts from hundreds of feature films about the Holocaust. By reassembling these cinematic fragments, the film offers a thought-provoking reflection on how one of history's greatest tragedies has been represented, remembered and interpreted through cinema.

The screening was presented in partnership with Goethe-Institut Ukraine. Fabian Mühlthaler, Director of Goethe-Institut Ukraine, opened the evening by emphasising that remembering the Holocaust remains essential for understanding today's challenges and safeguarding democratic values.

The Film Club programme has been curated by documentary filmmaker Oleksii Radynskyi, the programme director of RESEARCH SPACE. Throughout the summer, audiences will have the opportunity to attend four more screenings exploring themes of historical memory, human rights, identity and genocide.

"We are sincerely grateful to Goethe-Institut Ukraine, the Embassy of Germany in Ukraine, and personally to Fabian Mühlthaler for this partnership. Collaborations like these allow us to introduce Ukrainian audiences to significant international films while creating a space for meaningful conversations about memory, history and human rights," said Roza Tapanova, Director General of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar".

The RESEARCH SPACE public programme will continue until 30 August, bringing together film screenings, discussions, archival workshops, a book club, and other public events designed to encourage reflection on history, memory and family heritage.

We invite everyone to follow our upcoming announcements and join the programme throughout the summer.
